Lewis Hamilton, current champion of Formula One, appears in the Paradise Papers involved in a rental operation of a Jet Bombardier Challenger CL635 in 2013.
Of the 22 million euros of the plane, 3.7 million in taxes would not have been paid, since Hamilton did not put the device in his name but a company based in the Virgin Islands. This company in turn rents the aircraft to another based on Man Island and eventually leases to another company to which Hamilton requests the aircraft.
The British sportsmen’s lawyers, with an estimated salary of 40 million euros per year, only from Mercedes, assure that the transaction was carried out with complete legality since the rental formula instead of the purchase, gives a tax advantage.
Not only Lewis, who achieved her fourth F1 title after the Grand Prix of Mexico, is the only celebrity to appear in the Paradise Papers, the latest installment of the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists working together with the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung, Madonna and The U2 frontman, Bono, are also on the separate list of business and political figures.
