The Formula 1 World Championship takes place on Saturday 14 and Sunday, April 15, the last two days of the Chinese Grand Prix of Formula 1. For the first time this season, the championship has two races in consecutive weeks

The first day of free practice showed a technical draw between Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Raikkonen: only seven thousandths separate the Mercedes driver from Ferrari. Vettel, winner in the two races so far, the Grand Prix of Australia and Bahrain, has been fourth, at 0.108, behind a Bottas that harasses the leaders to 0.033 seconds.

Carlos Sainz and Fernando Alonso were respectively eighth, to 0.991 and tenth, to 1.150. The McLaren driver, who salvaged a seventh place finish in Bahrain after finishing 13th, hopes to enter Q3 for the first time this season. Sainz on the other hand, is granted a respite after not finishing in the points zone in the previous race.
